Message from Supt Ricketts

Dear all,

This weekend pubs, bars and restaurants will be opening and we have been working closely with local council licensing officers and licensed premises to ensure that everyone is well prepared. We’ll have extra officers working again this weekend so that we can support communities and respond quickly where required.

We understand that many people will be looking forward to the further relaxation of restrictions, however as we have seen with events in Leicester and the continuing new daily cases of COVID-19 in London, we are sadly not out of this health crisis yet. We want everyone to be able to enjoy themselves safely this weekend and we need your help with that. Please encourage those you know, to use their influence to urge everyone to be responsible and maintain social distancing, so that we can protect each other and play our part in ensuring we don’t put additional pressure on the NHS through alcohol related incidents and violence.

The weather over recent days has helped reduce the number of problems we were seeing with unlicensed music events, block parties and gatherings. We know how concerned residents are about having these and we continue to have a significant investigation running to ensure those who committed criminal acts will be brought to justice.

Thank-you to everyone who has provided us with information about unlicensed music events. This is has been really helpful in ensuring we can address them early, seizing music equipment where necessary and dispersing people who have gathered. We are ready to respond should the frequency of these events pick back up again. The public can report information about them to us by dialling 101, by tweeting @MetCC or by calling Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.

We want to ensure you that we are listening and responding to community concerns and issues. If you have anything you’d like to talk to us about please speak to me on our conference call tomorrow unless urgent.

Thank you for your continued support.
