Volunteers needed for annual count of rough sleepers across the borough

We now have a date confirmed for the Annual Street Count. This happens across London on the same night to give a measure on the numbers of people rough sleeping in the capital.

The street count will happen on the night of 28th to the morning of 29th November 2019.

As usual, we rely on volunteers to help us do the count and we hope you will be able to join us on the night. The Police will be in attendance (for particular sleep sites), a rep. from Homeless Link who will officially verify the count process is also attending, and a rep. from MHCLG is also likely be in attendance, alongside volunteer officers and senior managers in the Housing Inclusion Service.

We have a team of volunteers from the Council, but this year, we would really like for local community groups to take part!

We expect volunteers to be available from about 12 midnight and the whole process takes about 2 to 3 hours to complete. We will first meet/assemble at the Woolwich Centre - Upper Ground floor for a full briefing (with some tea/coffee, snacks) before setting out.

Volunteers would go out in pairs or groups of 3 to areas identified as specific or potential sleep sites, and apart from the local sites we try to pair up drivers with non-drivers to cover the far ends of the borough.

Please let us know if you are able to help out.
